Rostock (LEN) – Last year in Berlin, Germany’s Patrick Hausding took the title - among others - in the 3m springboard event. “With a bit of luck I could do it again here in Rostock, but it’s not a foregone conclusion,” said the top-class diver prior to the beginning of the Arena European Diving Championships. Hausding put in some good performances at the FINA World Diving Series over the past few months. “In some events I even defeated divers from Russia and China. This is a great motivation, especially for the upcoming Worlds,” the 26-year-old from Berlin explained. Rostock – Nein, eine Medaillenprognose war Lutz Buschkow partout nicht zu entlocken. „Wir wollen an die vergangene EM anknüpfen und unter den Top-Drei-Nationen sein“, sagte der Chefbundestrainer der deutschen Wasserspringer vor den Europameisterschaften in Rostock. Von heute an bis Sonntag kämpfen 13 Deutsche in elf Wettbewerben um Edelmetall, Platzierungen und auch um Quotenplätze für Olympia 2016 in Rio. Vor zwei Jahren gab es in Rostock zwei Gold- und je vier Silber- und Bronzemedaillen. 2014 holten die deutschen Springer im Rahmen der Schwimm-EM von Berlin ebenfalls zehn Medaillen (3-3-4). Bis Sonntag geht es um Medaillen und um Olympia-Startplätze für die Spiele in Rio de Janeiro. Für Deutschland starten bei den kontinentalen Titelkämpfen von Brett und Turm 13 Männer und Frauen.

Rostock (LEN) – The shuttle service of the Organizing Committee put in some hard work prior to the Arena European Diving Championships in Rostock: 22 trips alone to the Berlin airports Tegel and Schönefeld were needed to bring all participants and officials to Rostock. Additionally, four rides to the airport Hamburg Fuhlsbüttel were scheduled while two trips were made to the regional airport of Rostock-Laage.

With regard to the departure of all participants, the shuttle service reckons with 19 trips to Berlin, two to Hamburg and another three to Rostock-Laage. “We think that, eventually, our shuttles will have accumulated 22,000 kilometers,” explained Edith Manrau and Hannelore Staker of the Organizing Committee, responsible to coordinate all trips. By the way, the shuttle service is entirely run by volunteer drivers.

Rostock (LEN) – Germany’s Elena Wassen and Matthew Dixon of Great Britain are the first competitors at the Arena European Championships Diving in Rostock to be born this millennium. Both are born in 2000. At the 2014 European Youth and Junior Championships in Bergamo, Italy, Elena Wassen won the youth title in the 10m platform and, together with her sister Christina, in the synchronized 10m platform. Matthew Dixon earned a bronze medal in the 10m platform in Bergamo. Both will compete in the individual platform events in Rostock.
